Confirmation – The Diocese of Paterson Basic Required Content for Candidates for Confirmation: Baltimore Catechism #1. The Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church or YOUCAT and the This Is Our Faith will be the texts used for classes.
a) Confirmation I: Fundamentals of the Faith: Trinitology/Christology; Mariology; Divine Revelation: Scripture and Tradition, and Church Teaching Authority; and Christian Anthropology and Pure Love (Theology of the Body).
b) Confirmation II: Ecclesiology; Prayer; Sacramentology; and Moral Theology.
Specific Requirements for Confirmation I & II:
a) Unit Virtue(s) Project
b) Saints Project
c) Saints Name Project
d) Any and all homework assignments derived from the “Discussion Points & Activities”
e) Stations of the Cross
f) Community Service Hours
g) Confirmation Conversations with the Pastor
h) Retreats (Fee Schedule given on Registration Form)
Family Faith Formation: All students are expected to attend any and all Family Faith Formation sessions. Please see Section IX: Family Faith Formation.
Right to Life Curriculum: Grades 4 through Confirmation II will have addressed the issues of the Right to Life and the authentic Christian understanding of human sexuality addressed in class in an age-appropriate fashion. The curriculum used will have been approved by competent authority.
Teaching Touching Safety: This is a diocesan required class for all parishes to offer. However, parents may opt-out their child or join in class to observe. The grade years where this class is taught may vary, however the curriculum is approved by the Diocese of Paterson for the appropriate ages that will be addressed with this class.
