"The eucharistic celebration is the action of Christ himself and the Church. In it, Christ the Lord, through the ministry of the priest, offers himself, substantially present under the species of bread and wine, to God the Father and gives himself as spiritual food to the faithful united with his offering. (c. 899 §1)" The Mass re-presents the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ that we may have a real experience and relationship with the salvific events of the Paschal Mystery. "The Eucharist, when celebrated at Mass, transcends time and brings us back to Calvary and the hollowed tomb, that we may have a real experience of the event of our salvation and then go forth and announce it to the world. (Philip-Michael Tangorra, Holiness and Living the Sacramental Life, (Steubenville: Emmaus Road Publishing, 2017) 103)"
At Our Lady Queen of Peace, the celebration of the holy Mass is the center of our life and prayer: "The liturgy is the summit toward which the activity of the Church is directed; at the same time it is the font from which all her power flows. (Vatican II, constitution on the sacred liturgy Sacrosanctum Concilium 10, December 4, 1963)" From our celebration of the Eucharist at Mass our community is nourished and strengthened by the grace of God to be the instrument of God for the salvation of all.
In order to accommodate the different spiritual and cultural needs of the people of our parish, each Sunday Mass is tailored to a different need: the 5 pm Sunday Vigil (Saturday Evening) is a "normative" experience of the Novus Ordo Missae with English hymns and Mass parts; the 8 am Sunday Mass is more traditional, incorporating Gregorian Chant for all of the Mass parts, more traditional hymnody, etc.; the 10 am Children and Family Mass will see the usage of more contemporary worship music; the 12 Noon Mass is in Spanish; and the 7 pm Jockmas or Last Chance Mass has no music and is equated to a low Mass in English. There are also the celebrations of the Traditional Latin Mass on weekdays and special occasions, these Masses range from a low Mass to a Solemn High Mass depending upon the occasion.
We invite all to come and experience the great mystery of God's self-revelation through the proclamation of the Word of God and the mystery of the Word made flesh in the Eucharist at Mass.
